12-05-2005 - We have updated our website. We have added a new look and feel to the site. We have also re-reviewed some of the schools. It seems that the school have taken notice to our site. We will be releasing a new chart soon. With the new chart, you will see some new schools added as well.
5-10-2005 - READ ALERT - Statements you should watch out for: Schools that say “100% approval guarantee”. I would not want my H.R, Employment Service or Hiring Company to read that.
Life Experience schools using actual grades instead of P/F. When being awarded a degree via PLA or Experiential you receive P/F. Grades should be awarded only for work. Actual testing, Theses, etc. Legitimate PLA can offer P/F only if no work is required. Consider this Fraud. ED

Searching around on the web for fresh information. I found this at HotJobs.com:
""As a businesswoman, I have had the opportunity to hire and work with hundreds of employees from all walks of life. I have employed fresh, young upstarts straight out of college, and I have employed people who have spent years of their lives gaining experience in their respective fields. The one certainty I have come to rely on is this: a traditional degree from a prestigious university does not mean you've found the best person for the job."" Read the Rest of the Article

Does anyone have experience with degrees from Liberia; in particular Robertstowm University? No, I am sorry. Ed - I will do some research.
I get this question sometimes. Do you work for any of the schools. No, I do not work for any of the schools. I do not release information about anyone on this site, or sell data to outside advertising firms.
Do you do this by yourself? No, I have a couple friends that help me with gathering information and web design.

Excerpted from the Introduction of `The Alternative Guide to College Degrees & Non-Traditional Higher Education` by John B. Bear, Ph.D. (Published by the Stonesong Press, a division of Grosset & Dunlap, Inc., 1980).
A few years ago, if you lived in the United States and wanted to earn a college degree - a bachelor, masters, or doctorate - you really had only one alternative: Go to a campus, take class after class, year after year, until you had completed enough units for the degree. Normally this used to take four years for a bachelor s degree, one or two more for a master s degree, and two or three years beyond that for a doctorate. There has truly been a revolution in higher education in America since 1970. In essence of this revolution can be summarized in a single sentence: Today, instead of getting credit (and degrees) from a physical, formal, traditional university, you can get credit (and degrees) for what you learn on your own, in your own time, non-traditionally.
The Comparative Argument of Alternative Education:
1. Traditional education awards degrees based on the time served and the credits earned. Alternative education awards degrees based on demonstrated competencies and skills.
2. Traditional education bases degrees requirements on the medieval concept of some liberal education and some specialized education. Alternative education bases degrees requirements on an agreement between student and faculty designed to help the student achieve his or her career and personal goals.
3. Traditional education considers the years from eighteen to twenty-two as the optimum time for attending college. Alternative education assumes that learning is desirable throughout life, and degrees should be available at any age.
4. Traditional education views faculty as transmitters of knowledge and information. Alternative education views faculty as counselors who help students learn how to learn.
5. Traditional education aims at producing a well-educated finished product ready to enter the job market or graduate school. Alternative education aims at producing lifelong learners, capable of change and responding through life to their own evolving needs and those of society.
Yes, you can do it the easy way by going to Dr. John Bear, the "expert" on matters of education, traditional and non-traditional. Yet, if you look into the background of this gentleman you will find a lengthy involvement with non-traditional schools, some of which are listed as diploma mills in Oregon, Michigan and internationally.

Nice post. Ever wonder how much money they make off their sites, with the paid lead deal with the schools or marketing agency. Funny, I make nothing and all the links go straight to the schools. Plus no ADVERTISING.
I am currently enrolled at Breyer State University in the Doctor of Nursing Science Program. I investigated every program I could find for an on-line program and BSU offers what I believe to be the best. I have had only positive interactions with instructors and the university. I was concerned about the university not being regionally accredited, but my goals do not require such a degree. I can state without hesitation that BSU is not a diploma mill. Please contact me with any questions you may have.
Tim
firstly i really like your website.
i have been interested in getting a life experience degree but finding the right university can be confusing.
i tried some of the applications to test them so i deliberately gave them weak applications to see hoe they reacted....I sent one to belford then Ashwood...Ii was amazed that they got back to me so soon after all their so called team of experts have a big decision to make.....both institutions agreed and what's really interesting is that the timings of the responses had patterns that would indicate that they were automatic and coincided with the exact times of application they also both used a pressure selling technique by saying only 4 days left for you to make the payment....it is obvious that they are the same entity and that they have no standards what so ever i dont know why your website gave them 2 stars because they are simply selling degrees and i heard rumors that its run from an apartment....anyone can say they are accredited but by whom is the big question. Mark
I gave them two stars because of the information on their site and they sent their information to me in a timely manner. I cannot comment on the apartment, because I have no way of knowing that. Ed
I received my life experience degree from Ashwood. They were prompt and delivered on time. I am having difficulty contacting them now though. It could be me but you never know - Alison
I HAVE NOT HAD ANY EXPERIENCE WITH THE ANY OF THE UNIVERSITY LISTED ABOVE SO PLEASE KINDLY TELL ME ABOUT IT darlinton
Hmmm... Did you get a chance to review the site? Ed
I'm trying to get a hold of Global Church Ministries in order to get their nonprofit information. It appears that they were a scam. I can not find a link to them anywhere, and there is no contact information. If you have any information, i could use your help! Jeremy .
Jeremy, I am not going to post your email address here, but if I find out any information, or if someone reading the post has any information. Email me and I will relay it to you Jeremy.
Do you know if one of these "life experience" degrees would be sufficient for obtaining an English teaching job in another country (i.e. China)? All I currently have is a H.S. diploma and an accounting degree (along with considerable, consistent work-experience, primarily in sales). I would be VERY interested in purchasing one of your programs if in fact they are sufficient for my needs (in helping me to obtain this type of work). Please let me know a.s.a.p. and then I'll get right back to you. John
Hi John, I am not selling any degrees. I am just reviewing the providers. I am not familiar with teaching English in China. I would contact an agency and tell them your qualifications. They would be able to better help you. Ed
My experience with most of the universities listed on DegreeAdvice has been to access their (and other life experience university) websites.
Some seem to ask ridiculous amounts for their services. Global Churh University seems reasonable, however.
Has any blogger had experience of Madison, Gordon or Earlscroft University? The latter has a reasonable web-site but over the cours of a year I have been unable to elicit a reply from them. Any suggestions? edmund
I have not had any experience with these institutions. Ed
1) i'd like to see a more thorough representation of (non accredited) online degree programs. I noticed other life experience degree programs are not listed in the chart such as Westwood, Western-Kennedy, Mt. Sierra, Baker Online, and others...
2) when can we expect the message board to be up and running, i'd like to see what others have to say in the forum.
3) a review or listing of their respective private accrediting agencies would be nice to see also thanks for the opportunity to share my thoughts. i hope to get a reply or see my questions posted on this website with answers. ADC
Your welcome Ed
I found a link for Suffield University, I filled out the form, they said it would take 3-4 days for a review and reply back to me.
I received a reply 3 days later stating they approved my application and I qualified for either an Associate Degree or Bachelors Degree, and Certification Program. Are they legitimate??? Tim --
Tim, I am not sure what you are looking for? Are you going to get a degree if you send them your money? Yes. Are these credentials going to be accepted if you place them on your resume? That is something I do not know. Ed.
I feel that this needs to be brought to your attention. I just had the rudest experience with so-called sheffield. Upon my inquiry regarding majors offered I got a rude response. They would not answer my question and told me that if I didn't know about a major, then I should not study the major. That I didn't have any business learning it. I think that if you want students you should try to recruit and encourage them to attend. They were very secretive about where they were and who owned the school and who was in charge. Very suspicious.
I hope you take heed.
Thank you,
jane
What can you tell me about Belford University? Pauletta
Hmm, Did you read over the review Pauletta? Ed...
does a life experience degree actually say "Life Experience Degree" on the degree itself or does it just have the type of Degree it is? T.
---- Tim,Todd, Trent or just T. If you review each school they have a picture of their degree. I have not received a degree that had "Life Experience Degree" written on it. Ed
